New Bariatric Surgery – Stomach Intestinal Pylorus Sparing Surgery (SIPS) – Now Available in Las Vegas, Nevada

The latest bariatric treatment – SIPS Surgery – is now available in Las Vegas for those suffering from obesity.

Stomach Intestinal Pylorus Sparing Surgery (SIPS)

What is Stomach Intestinal Pylorus Sparing Surgery?

  • Stomach Intestinal Pylorus Sparing Surgery — a new bariatric surgery also known as modified duodenal switch surgery — is performed by reducing the size of the stomach.
  • It involves creating a sleeve out of the stomach by removing a large part of it. The sleeve created is larger in volume than the one created in gastric sleeve surgery.
  • The next step involves separation of the duodenum from the remaining intestinal tract.
  • As compared to regular Duodenum Switch (DS), SIPS leads to greater absorption of nutrients and vitamins, and less bowel movement.

Are You a Candidate for SIPS?

Unlike duodenal switch, SIPS is easier to perform and lessens the nutritional deficiencies. At the same time it also helps patients lose a lot of weight. If your previous attempts at losing weight have failed, then Stomach Intestinal Pylorus Sparing Surgery could suit you. This surgery is for severely obese whose weight is causing serious health problems and interferes with their routine chores.

  • Less invasive
  • Favorable long term results for weight loss and GERD3
  • Reduces the risk for malnutrition and diarrhea4

According to a study by Cottam D. and colleagues published in 2015, SIPS Surgery has been acknowledged as a technically feasible procedure which aids in substantial weight loss during the short term follow-up3. GERD Reduction After Surgery

The study by Cottam D. also states that the procedure can be a feasible option for the treatment of GERD in morbidly obese patients. The study noted that between 6-12 months after the surgery, all the patients were satisfied with the improvement. With the mean total score of 6.2, lower GERD-HRQL (health related quality of life) total scores indicated good quality of life3.

Obesity Statistics in USA - Infographic

Obesity can put you at risk of many harmful and life-threatening diseases and the simplest of tasks may seem like a challenge. Obese people are more likely to develop severe heart conditions and T2D (Type 2 Diabetes). As per the State of Obesity, adult obesity has increased by thirty-five percent in four US states followed by thirty percent in 25 US States1.

With more than 29 million American adults suffering from diabetes and 86 million having pre-diabetes, the prevalence of obesity related diseases is alarming. As per a US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) report, one in three adults could have diabetes by 20502. Bariatric surgery can be an effective tool in avoiding becoming a mere statistic.
