Gastrectomy in Tijuana, Mexico

Susan Spensor from Dallas, Texas shares her experience about the gastric sleeve surgery in Tijuana, Mexico.

Following is the video narration.

“I think that it’s real important to approach with an open mind and not think that because it’s different than you will find at home. That it’s not as good as you would find at home. I didn’t talk to a lot of people about it beforehand, but since I have been back and I would tell people, yes I have had weight loss surgery and I went to Mexico.

Their eyes would get big and they will tell “Oh my god”. They express alarm when I say I was taken care of. I was picked up from the airport, I was driven everywhere I wanted to go, there were always medical professionals looking after me and then they took me back after they were sure that I was on the road to recovery.

They took good care of my sister who was just along for the ride and that was part of the price that I paid. And one of the things is reassuring that before I left I was told that it was going to be this price and it was this price. It was not like now you need pain medication so another 15 dollars or your sister wants to eat breakfast so that’s another 750. It was all part of the price.

And I was there when I paid for the procedure and I didn’t get billed at the end of it for the incidentals that occurred when I was there. That was really good feeling. They were there to make sure that my recovery went well.

Savings: The price that I paid was 5200 dollars and I frequently visit the opc forums and there was a woman in the last couple of weeks. That said that she just got the bills from her surgeon and hospital and the total was 41,000 dollars.

So, I could not have had the procedure and burden my family with that addition here in the United States. So I was just thrilled that I had the opportunity to make this huge change in my life without having that additional financial burden for 5 to 6 years in the future.”

Susan Spensor describes how the low cost of treatment offered at the weight loss surgery hospital in Tijuana, Mexico helped her save a big hole in the pocket.
